computer-integrated manufacturing system

computer-integrated manufacturing system
= CIMS
A system bringing together computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, flexible manufacturing systems, and outputs from integrated information processing systems. These systems are dependent on the adoption of common operating systems and transparent communications networks. Their success often depends on cultural and political issues rather than technical capabilities, as they often cut across traditional roles and power structures.
